Painting Ohio Prairies: A Year in the Life – 2014 Ohio Plein Air Society Exhibition
Dec 6, 2014-Feb 22, 2015Over the past two years, the Ohio Plein Air Society’s members have been painting prairies throughout the state. Plein Air painters take their name from the French words “en plein air,” meaning in fresh air, or outside. In addition to works created solely outside in all seasons, there will be paintings completed inside based on studies and work done outside. This year’s biennial exhibition is juried by Fred Fochtman, a fine art conservator and painter based in Columbus.
Wittenberg Studio Art Seniors Winter Show (Halley Gallery)
Nov 22, 2014-Feb 1, 2015The exhibit in the Halley Gallery is an annual display that the senior art students create during their final year at Wittenberg. The studio art majors collectively display samples of their thesis projects as a sneak preview of their individual results.
The senior projects are self-selected and contain their best efforts in that media. Nineteen seniors are exhibiting in the show this year and they represent a broad range of media and techniques within the Art Department at Wittenberg. The entire project from each senior will be displayed in the gallery and exhibit spaces of Koch Hall on the Wittenberg campus in April, 2015.

Sep 20–Nov 23, 2014Drawing upon his childhood in Nebraska, his experiences in New Mexico, his nearly 50 years in Ohio, and his mentors and teachers. Professor emeritus at The Ohio State University, Larry Shineman’s paintings and drawings are both mysterious and calming, drawing you into their composition.

Feb 14-May 11, 2014Classic Images includes 72 images – all black and white – that Adams personally printed for his daughter. It is one of his Museum Sets, a portfolio he conceived in the 1970s as the best images from his career.

2014 Congressional Art Competition
Mar 29-Apr 14, 2014The 2014 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” aims to showcase the artistic talents of 8th District high school students. The competition is open to high school students (grades 9-12), who are residents of the 8th Congressional District.
The work of art that is awarded the GRAND PRIZE will hanging in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with other winning pieces from students around the country. The winning artist may receive free round-trip airfare for the national winners’ reception in Washington, D.C., and be eligible for a $3000/year scholarship to a renowned college of arts and design. FIRST PLACE artwork will hang in the Office of the Speaker of the House for one year. Winners will be announced at a community reception at Springfield Museum of Art on April 5.
Visit the Museum from March 29 to April 14 to view the Congressional Art Competition Exhibit, An Artistic Discovery. And join us on Saturday April 5, 4-6pm, for a community reception celebrating these budding young artists.
