Blue Plate Specials: The Abilities Connection features works from artists participating in TAC (The Abilities Connection), an organization that enhances the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Springfield Museum of Art’s Curator of Education, Annette Eschelman, has spent the last three years partnering with the organization, offering art instruction and introducing students to new mediums and means of expressing themselves. This exhibition is the culmination of work done over the past year, and features exploration of three dimensional materials. Included in the show are thirteen “Blue Plate Specials” – wonderfully engaging meals crafted out of clay and displayed upon real plates and platters. Also featured are nineteen photographs by artist and TAC Evaluator Registered Service Associate Michael Brassfield documenting the creation of the works.
